Brief

Design a logo for a small business called Living Threads

Concept

Living Threads is a company that creates high quality, sustainably made textiles. These textiles are handcrafted, often taking months to finish, by women in places such as Guatemala and Nicaragua. The mission of this company is to help preserve traditional artisan practices, and give back to these communities by giving a generous portion of every purchase to these women and their families. 

When designing this logo, I wanted to combine the feeling of high quality with the uniqueness of a hand crafted piece of art. The fluid-like handwriting of the word "living" pleasantly contrasts with the sturdiness of the word "Threads" in capital letters. The dots of the i's were placed off balance to enhance the handcrafted look and to add a tiny drop of imperfection, as is in the beauty of art. The company was mainly concerned with a logo that would look good on tags and thank you cards. Because of this, I decided that the best shape to work with would be a rectangle. The rectangle served as a geometric representation of a blanket or rug, which the company specializes in.
